First of all – he wasn’t born with the name "Trapper"… that came later.
When he was born, he was in Reading, PA. It was a cold February night (well, it WAS February, so we assume it was cold).
While he was BORN in Reading; he LIVED with his older brother & parents in Wyomissing, PA until he was 9 years old … then, "they packed up the truck and moved to Beverly…Hills that is…swimming pools…movie…" crap…wait, that’s not right! Oh, they moved to Whitfield, PA where he began attending Wilson School District.
Because his dad was a school teacher in the Reading School District, his family was able to live at the New Jersey shore every summer – and that’s where he had nearly all of his "firsts". Space doesn’t allow a full list – but it’s all the good stuff, if you know what I mean. He had many, many summer jobs - including one as a ride operator & disc jockey on Morey’s Pier in Wildwood, NJ – where he discovered his passion for playing music for crowds.
In 1981, he graduated Wilson High School – then after a summer of some more great debauchery in Wildwood, NJ – he began attending Clarion University of Pennsylvania (which at the time was still Clarion State College) for an even higher level of debauchery... and - of course - to earn a BS degree in Communications (redundant, I know) ... but, mostly the debauchery.
It was on his first day at CSC that he was given the nickname "Trapper" (because he looked like "Trapper" from the TV show M*A*S*H*).
He started working on the two college radio stations in September of 1981 – and has been in the broadcasting industry ever since. Before graduating Clarion University in 1985, he had already begun working professionally on the radio station in nearby Brookville, PA – then eventually at the two commercial stations in Clarion, PA; then a move back to Reading, PA; a stint working toward his Secondary Ed Teacher’s Certification at Kutztown University of PA; intermittent jobs on the air in Philly (twice); The Outer Banks of NC; Atlantic City and eventually Mechanicsburg, PA – where he joined the staff of WTPA in 1997.
Not much has happened since then.
Life in progress.
