Sure to please your guests, this baked appetizer combines ham and fresh ground pork with vegetables, mustard, spices, and a splash of whiskey.
INGREDIENTS:
* 1 pound ground cooked ham
* 1/2 pound ground fresh pork
* 1-1/2 cups soft bread crumbs (about 3 slices)
* 2 tablespoons whiskey, divided
* 2 tablespoons water
* 1 egg
* 1/4 cup minced celery
* 2 tablespoons minced onion
* 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
* 1/4 teaspoon pepper
* 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
* 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
* 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
* 1/2 tablespoon vinegar
PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with non-stick foil.
In a large bowl, mix together ham, ground pork , bread crumbs, 1 tablespoon , water, egg, celery, , dry mustard , pepper and cloves until evenly combined.
Using about 1 tablespoon of the mixture for each, form into balls and place 1 inch apart on baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes.
For the sauce, combine remaining 1 tablespoon whiskey, brown sugar, prepared, and vinegar in a saucepan over low heat. Whisk until combined and cook about 5 minutes.
Toss cooked ham balls in sauce. Serve warm in a chafing dish or low-heat crockpot .
Yield: 20 to 25 meatballs
