Coffey & Amy

About Coffey & Amy
The roads that led to the massively powerful outlaw radio stations that blew in from Mexican border towns in the 1960’s and blanketed much of the U.S. with their five hundred thousand watt signals were filled with deranged and desperate criminals and carburetor choking dust. Anyone who risked the trip from the states, though, returned with astonishing tales of a morning radio host known as El Loco Gringo.

His legendary energy, fueled by equal parts adrenalin and contraband, is now south of the border myth, and the stories of this broadcaster are the stuff of legend.

This has nothing to do with Ed Coffey. Ed began his radio career in western New York State in 1972, and made stops in Rochester, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Baltimore before coming to Harrisburg and 93-5 WTPA in March of 1988. This also marked the debut of Coffey and the Jammer, Harrisburg’s Longest Running Temporary Morning Team. Amy Warner joined them in 1990, marking the first time in radio history that an intern took complete and total control of a radio program, a relationship that remains today, through firings, reunions, more firings, rehirings and the passing of the Jammer. Coffey and Amy continue the good fight, with the support of the teeming masses.

During this time of Ed’s semi-meteoric climb to fairly continuous employment, the former Polly Perkins consented to what Ed’s family refers to as a Mercy Marriage (The mercy being granted to Ed from Polly). Their oldest daughter, Allison, was born in 1985, and the twins, Max and Molly came along three years later, prompting Polly to inform the delivery room doctor that her new choice of birth control would be pepper spray.

Time waits for no one, but Coffey and Amy remain where they belong: Weekdays from 5:30 ‘til 10:00 on 93-5 WTPA.
