Local Camp Hill school teacher looks to the future after diagnosis of rare genetic illness to bring support to others and raise awareness for this disease
Daphne Kretz, a local school teacher from Camp Hill, PA, was diagnosed earlier this year with an incurable rare genetic disease called CADASIL. As the 412th person in the world to be diagnosed with this illness, Daphne has spent the past 8 months searching for information and support on these diseases.
Because of the nature of the disease and unexpected seizures, Daphne had to leave her beloved job as a school teacher at Conneaut Valley School and struggled to come to terms with the disease. At the beginning of her diagnosis, Daphne had to travel to the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, but has since found Dr. Bettermann, a doctor at Hershey Medical Center, who is an expert in the field and consults for the United Leukodystrophy Foundation http://www.ulf.org/.
To help bring awareness to those in need, Daphne wants to highlight rare genetic illnesses such as hers to let others know there is support out there. Daphne is available for interviews to discuss illness, journey through this difficult time and the following:
• CADASIL and the implications of rare genetic diseases
• The importance of genetics research
• Having to give up work and survive with mounting medical costs
• The "Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act" and why it's important
After such a difficult year, Daphne and her fiancé are looking forward to planning their future together and will be getting married on October 4th, 2008 at Hershey Gardens in Hershey, PA. After hearing Daphne's touching story, Ice.com and David's Bridal wanted to help generate further awareness for this disease and make their dream wedding a reality through in-kind donations.

Chelsy's Heroes Supports Our Troops and Their Families
Hello and let me first introduce myself. My name is Jennifer. I am from the Harrisburg Pennsylvania area. Back in December I met a lady from Minnesota who's daughter at the age of 11 started a non-profit organization called Chelsy's Heroes(which Chelsy's is the girls name). Chelsy's Heroes is again a non-profit organization.
It helps support our troops over seas and send them care packages, it also helps military families here in the states who may have a loved one overseas and is going through a rough time. And if a military family is expecting we like to send them a baby care package.
Chelsy and her mother( Julie) decided that since there is military and families all over the US in all 50 states why not expand this organization to all 50 states. So that is where I come in at. I was asked to be the president of PA for Chelsys Heroes and raise money to get care packages sent out and to help the families in need that have a loved one over seas.
We are non-profit so we all our funds come through donations from people like you.
I am emailing cause Chelsys Heroes is working with a local bar in Harrisburg PA on a benefit to help raise money for our troops and their families. The event is taking place at Morgans Place on Front Street in Harrisburg Sat Oct 18th starting at 7pm.
Please also feel free to check out out website.. www.chelsysheroes.com
Thank you and God Bless!
